Best places for battery storage (BESS) in Spain

Why Spain's solar boom makes batteries valuable, and how Gridscouter ranks 1,700+ substations for BESS.

Why batteries in Spain

Spain has more than 6,000 solar plants in open map data, and midday prices often drop very low. Batteries that charge at noon and discharge in the evening fill that gap. Very few batteries are mapped yet.

How we rank substations

Each 132 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV substation is scored on voltage, nearby solar and wind, existing storage and grid density, with a suggested MW/MWh size.

Where to look

Substations in Extremadura, Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Aragon, where solar is dense, often score well.

Note

Gridscouter scores are estimates from open map data, not grid operator capacity figures. Confirm connection capacity with the grid operator.
