Grid access and connection permits in Spain

Navigating the Acceso y Conexión process and understanding the capacity queues at Spanish nodes.

Acceso y Conexión

Securing both access (to the grid) and connection (to a specific point) is the first major hurdle for Spanish developers.

The IVA guarantee

Developers must post a financial guarantee, currently 40 euros per kW, to request a connection permit. This helps prevent speculative requests.

Red Eléctrica queues

Capacity at many 400 kV and 220 kV nodes is very tight. Red Eléctrica (REE) publishes monthly updates on available capacity.

Knot-based capacity

Permits are granted at specific 'nudos' (nodes). If a node is full, developers must wait for grid reinforcements or look elsewhere.

Note

Gridscouter scores are estimates from open map data, not grid operator capacity figures. Confirm connection capacity with the grid operator.
