How to find BESS sites in 14 days: a practical workflow
A day-by-day workflow to shortlist battery storage sites near substations, check land and screen risks within a two-week trial.
Why two weeks is enough for a first shortlist
Most early-stage BESS scouting comes down to three questions: which substations are close enough, is there usable land nearby, and are there obvious showstoppers. With the right data in one place, a developer can answer these for a whole region in two weeks.

Days 1–3: rank the substations
Open the map for your country and switch to the BESS ranking. Look at voltage level, nearby existing batteries and the suggested size. Pick 10–15 substations worth a closer look.

Days 4–8: find land positions
Use the land finder on each shortlisted substation. It searches the area around the substation for plots of the right size and zoning, and combines adjacent plots. Note the best two or three per substation.
Days 9–12: screen the risks
Run the feasibility check on each plot: distance to houses, nature protection, heritage, flood risk, grid distance and terrain. Drop anything with a red flag.
Days 13–14: decide what to pursue
You should now have a short list of sites with land, a rough size and known risks. That is the moment to contact landowners and the grid operator.
