Netherlands high-voltage grid and congestion: a developer's guide
Guide to the Dutch transmission grid: 380, 220, 150 and 110 kV, TenneT and regional grid operators, grid congestion and where battery storage helps.
Who runs the grid
TenneT operates the high-voltage grid (110 kV and up). Regional grid operators such as Liander, Stedin and Enexis run the lower voltages. The regulator is ACM.
What the map shows
Gridscouter shows about 4,500 line sections and 446 substations, plus about 940 solar parks, 3,200 wind turbines, 45 battery projects and 168 data centers.
Grid congestion
Large parts of the country have no spare capacity for new connections, and developers often join a queue. Battery storage can ease congestion, but large batteries also need a connection themselves, so location matters more than ever.
How to use Gridscouter here
Use the map to shortlist strong 380 and 220 kV nodes, then check them against the operators' capacity maps. Gridscouter scores are estimates built from open map data, not grid operator capacity figures. Always confirm connection capacity with the grid operator.
