Dutch offshore wind and grid build-out to 2031
Year-by-year view of planned offshore wind farms, TenneT converter stations and 525 kV export cables in the Netherlands through 2031.
About 10 GW in five wind farms
IJmuiden Ver Alpha, Beta and Gamma and Nederwiek 1 and 2 add about 2 GW each. TenneT connects them with 2 GW, 525 kV DC links to new converter stations at Borssele and Maasvlakte.
Timeline
2029: IJmuiden Ver Alpha (Borssele) and Beta (Maasvlakte), both with permits awarded and grid works under construction. 2030: IJmuiden Ver Gamma. 2031: Nederwiek 1 and 2. The later years are estimates.
Why it matters onshore
Most of this power lands in Zeeland and the Rotterdam port area. Those 380 kV nodes become prime locations for battery storage, electrolysers and data centers that can soak up offshore output, but they also face long connection queues.
