BESS revenue and ancillary services in Sweden
How batteries earn revenue through FCR, aFRR, and FFR markets in the Swedish grid.
Frequency Regulation
Most Swedish battery projects currently earn revenue by providing frequency regulation services to Svenska kraftnät to keep the grid at 50 Hz.
FCR Markets
Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR) is a key market. It includes FCR-N for normal operation and FCR-D for disturbances, both upward and downward.
aFRR and FFR
Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve (aFRR) and Fast Frequency Response (FFR) are other important revenue streams, especially for batteries with fast response times.
Market Evolution
As more batteries join the market, prices for these services may change. Developers are increasingly looking at energy arbitrage to complement reserve revenue.
