Germany's planned grid and energy projects to 2031
SuedLink, SuedOstLink, A-Nord, Ultranet, offshore wind, large batteries and data centers: what gets built in Germany to 2031 and where it matters for developers.
The short version
Gridscouter tracks 13 headline projects in Germany to 2031: four HVDC corridors, the Nordlicht and Windanker offshore wind farms, the LEAG Boxberg battery and data center campuses by NTT (Nierstein) and Schwarz Digits (Lübbenau).
Why the corridors matter
Germany's wind is in the north, its industrial demand in the south and west. The corridors move power between them. Converter stations at each end become hotspots for storage, because batteries there can absorb peaks and relieve congestion.
Four transmission operators
TenneT, Amprion, 50Hertz and TransnetBW each run part of the extra-high-voltage grid. Below them, hundreds of distribution operators run 110 kV and lower. Knowing which operator owns a substation tells you who to ask for a connection.
What this means for developers
Grid connection queues are long, especially for batteries. Sites near new corridor endpoints or near announced data centers are worth checking first. Years are estimates based on public announcements.
