Onshore wind in Germany: the 2% target and where to build

How Germany's 2% land target for wind works, which regions are opening new areas, and how grid access shapes site choice.

The 2% target

Under the Wind-an-Land law, each federal state must designate a share of its land for wind, adding up to 2% nationally by 2032.

Regions

The north remains strong, but Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are designating more areas, which can mean less competition for grid capacity.

Note

Gridscouter scores are estimates from open map data, not grid operator capacity figures. Confirm connection capacity with the grid operator.
