Best battery storage (BESS) sites in Italy
How Gridscouter ranks Italian substations for battery storage, from Puglia to Sicily and Sardinia.
Why Italy
Italy has strong price spreads between day and night, a fast-growing solar fleet and the MACSE storage auctions, which makes it one of Europe's most active battery markets.
How Gridscouter ranks sites
Each substation is scored on voltage, solar and wind within 30 km, line ends within 1 km and little nearby hydro. Every site gets a suggested size in MW and MWh.
Where to look
The south (Puglia, Basilicata, Campania), Sicily and Sardinia have the most renewables and the most storage demand. Strong 380 kV nodes in the north can suit merchant batteries close to demand.
Note
Gridscouter scores are estimates from open map data, not grid operator capacity figures. Confirm connection capacity with the grid operator.
