Developing wind farms in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Where wind projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina are located, what makes a good wind site, and how grid access shapes wind development.
The wind belt
Almost all operating and planned wind farms sit on the high plateaus of western Herzegovina and the Livno–Tomislavgrad area: Mesihovina, Jelovača, Podveležje, Ivovik and the planned Poklečani and Hrgud projects. The bura wind makes this area attractive.
Site basics
Good wind land is open, elevated and at least 500 m from homes. Access roads for blade transport and a 110 kV connection within reach are usually the deciding factors.
Grid
Several new wind farms build their own 110 kV substation and line to the nearest node. That shared infrastructure can open space for neighbouring projects. Gridscouter scores are estimates from open map data, not grid operator capacity figures. Confirm connection capacity with the grid operator.
