Permitting solar, wind and batteries in France: a developer's checklist

The main checks for solar, wind and battery projects in France: Natura 2000, flood risk, heritage, noise and grid connection with RTE or Enedis.

Start with the land

Check Natura 2000 areas, flood zones, heritage sites, distance to homes and access roads before you talk to landowners. Gridscouter's land check covers several of these on one click.

Grid connection

Connection requests go to Enedis for distribution voltages or RTE for transmission. Regional plans for renewable connection (S3REnR) set the capacity reserved per area.

Local acceptance

Wind projects in particular face long reviews and appeals. Early contact with the municipality helps.

Note

This is general guidance, not legal advice. Always confirm with local authorities.
