Where to build solar in France

How Gridscouter ranks French substations for utility-scale solar, from Occitanie to Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The market

France has over 3,000 mapped solar plants and ambitious targets for new capacity. Ground-mounted parks are steered towards low-value land such as old quarries and brownfields.

How Gridscouter ranks solar sites

Substations are scored on sunshine, flat or south-facing land, grid voltage and how much solar is already connected. Each site gets a suggested size in MWp.

Where to look

The south (Occitanie, Provence, Nouvelle-Aquitaine) has the best sunshine; check regional connection capacity before securing land.

Note

Gridscouter scores are estimates from open map data, not grid operator capacity figures. Confirm connection capacity with the grid operator.
